Purcellville Canons

Game Recaps by Lauren Fulton

Cannons vs. Turks Recap By: Lauren Fulton
Tonight the Purcellville Cannons took on the Harrisonburg Turks for the first time this
season. Both teams battled to the very end, as the Cannons experienced their second
time extending the game to extra innings this evening. The game lasted for a total of 10
innings, where unfortunately, the Turks walked away with a 10-6 win over the Cannons.
The Cannons are now 9-7-0 in the Valley League and hope to increase their winning
percentage with the next series of both home and away games.
The starting pitcher for the evening was Maguire Ayres, (SR; Purdue University Fort
Wayne), who successfully pitched all the way through the 6th inning, allowing just 4
hits, and 1 earned run, although 2 scored during his time on the mound. He
successfully threw 4 strikeouts and allowed no walks – needless to say, he pitched a
very good game for the Cannons. Zach Mizrahi, (SO; Tallahassee Community College),
was first in relief for the night, who threw 0.1 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and 2
earned runs, with 1 strikeout. Up next was Chayce Bryant, (Sr; Southeastern
University), who pitched for 0.2 innings, allowing just 1 hit, with no walks, and allowed
no runs to score. Our next pitcher for the evening was Noah Ingle, (JR; North Greenville
University), who pitched for 0.1 innings, allowing no hits, but giving up 1 walk, and 2
earned runs. The next pitcher was none other than Will Ricketts, who pitched for 0.1
innings and gave up 1 hit, with 2 strikeouts. Following him out of the bullpen was
Andrew Washington, (SR; Georgia Gwinnett College), who pitched for 1 inning, allowing
no hits, no walks, and no runs to score, with 1 accompanying strikeout. Our next
pitcher was Aiden Adams, (SO; University of Arkansas Little Rock), who pitched for 0.2
innings, allowing 1 hit, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs to score, making him the “losing”
pitcher of the evening. Our final pitcher out of the bullpen tonight was Jacob Smith,
(SO; University of Pacific), who went in for 0.1 innings, giving up 1 hit, and 1 earned run
to close out the game. The pitching staff gave up a total of 9 hits and 4 walks on the
evening.
The offense for the evening battled hard and had a few noteworthy moments during
their time at the plate. Justin Acal, (SR; University of Pittsburgh), Ryne Guida, (SR;
Florida International University), and Joseph Eichelberger, (JR; Paul D Camp) all went 1
for 4 at the plate, each recording a double which earned them RBIs for the evening.
Some other Cannons who recorded RBIs at the plate were Keegan Knuston, (SO; San
Jacinto College North), and Brady Drawbaugh, (SO; ), who both came up clutch when
needed. Joseph Eichelberger along with Bear Horowicz, (SO; University of North
Carolina Chapel Hill), and Jose Torres, (SR; University of Louisiana Lafayette), all
successfully drew 2 walks on the evening, allowing others to move them around the
base paths to score some much-needed runs.
Our defense for the evening allowed 3 errors, which didn’t help in the long run, but also
wasn’t the worst performance we’ve seen this season. Catching for the Cannons was
Jose Torres, who caught the entirety of the game. Playing first base was Bear

Horowicz, playing second base was Tristan McAlister, (SR; Mt. St. Mary’s University),
playing shortstop was Justin Acal, and playing third base was Keegan Knuston. Our
outfielders for the evening were Brady Drawbaugh in left field, Mikey Brinton,
(University of Arkansas Fort Smith), in center field, and Joseph Eichelberger in right
field. Kainen Jorge, (SO; College of Central Florida), relieved Brinton towards the later
innings of the game, and went in to finish the game in center field.
The Cannons will head down to Culpeper tomorrow to take on the Cavaliers but will
return back to Fireman’s Field on Thursday at 7:00 pm sharp! This will be their last
home game for a little over a week, so be sure to stop by and bring your friends to
support our boys before they hit the road!

Cannons vs. Strasburg Express Recap By: Lauren Fulton

Tonight’s game against the Strasburg Express was anything but conventional. After an
hour rain delay to start the game, both teams went on to play a 4-hour and 20-minute
ballgame, which resulted in a 10-6 Strasburg win over the Purcellville Cannons. This is
the second time this season the two teams have played each other, and it is the fourth
game in a row that the Cannons have lost this season. You’ve heard me say it here
before, but baseball is a game of ups and downs – and right now, the Cannons are in a
tough position. With new players on the team and many moving factors, summer ball
can be a very stressful environment if you allow it to be. At the end of the day, baseball
is meant to be fun – whether you’re a D1 player, or just a kid starting his own journey,
the love of the game is what makes all the “failure” worthwhile. It’s no secret the boys
have gotten a little “in their heads” about their own personal “ups and downs”, but they
will come out of this adversity stronger, and even more prepared than they were before.
Our starting pitcher for the evening was Aiden Adams, (SO; University of Arkansas
Little Rock), who threw for 3 innings, allowing 3 hits, and 6 walks, giving the Express an
early advantage with 4 earned runs. First in relief for tonight’s game was Jaxson
Dalena, (SO; Shippensburg University), who also pitched for 3 innings, allowing just 3
hits, and 1 walk, with 5 strikeouts. Dalena only allowed 1 earned run, which helped
keep the Express “at bay” for the time being. Our next pitcher for the evening was
newcomer Andrew Washington,(SR; Georgia Gwinnett College), who pitched for 1
inning, allowing no hits and no runs, but had 2 walks on the evening. The next pitcher
for the evening was Luke Lyman, (FR; Morehead State University), who also threw for 1
inning, allowing just 1 hit, and 1 walk, keeping the Express at just 5 runs on the evening
thus far. Our next relief pitcher was Austin Eppley, (SO; College of Central Florida), who
pitched for 0.1 innings and allowed 1 run to score. He was then quickly relieved by
Jose Torres, (SR; University of Louisiana Lafayette), who pitched for 0.2 innings, giving
up 1 hit, with 1 accompanying strikeout. Our final pitcher for the evening was Jabbari
Smith, (SR; undecided), who pitched for 2 innings and allowed 3 hits, 2 walks, and 4
runs to score, which allowed the Express to win in extra innings.
It’s no secret that the Cannons have recently been experiencing a bit of a collective
offensive “slump”. With only 6 hits on the evening, the Cannons had a hard time
manufacturing runs throughout the duration of the game. However, there were some
quality hits from a few of the players this evening! Mikey Brinton, (JR; University of
Arkansas Fort Smith), went 2 for 4 on the night, with one of his hits being a quality
double. He was also able to draw a walk, which gave his teammates a chance to move
him around on the bases, especially with his speed! Brady Drawbaugh, (SR; Mt. St.
Marty’s University), also went 2 for 4 on the evening with a walk, helping the lower half
of the lineup get baserunners in a competitive spot on the field. Bear Horowicz, (SO;
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), also went 2 for 5 on the evening with a double
and 2 walks, showcasing his ability to get timely hits and draw walks and create

baserunners. Another offensive player to note for the evening was Brennan Hudson,
(SO; Georgia State University), who successfully drew 3 walks on the evening, once
again giving his teammates a chance to move him around the bases and help
manufacture runs.
Our defense for the night starts with our catcher Brennan Hudson, who caught all 10
innings, of tonight’s extended game against the Express. Playing first base was Bear
Horowicz, at second base was Keegan Knuston, (SO; San Jacinto College North),
playing shortstop was Justin Acal, (SR; University of Pittsburgh), and playing third base
was Mikey Brinton. Our outfielders for the evening were Joseph Eichelberger, (JR; Paul
D Camp), in left field, Kainen Jorge, (SO; College of Central Florida), in center field, and
Brady Drawbaugh in right field. The team suffered 3 errors on the evening, all of which
happened in the infield.
The Cannons will hit the road for the next couple of games as they take on the
Waynesboro Generals this Saturday, and the Woodstock River Bandits this Sunday.
However, after a long weekend away, the boys will return back to Fireman’s Field on
Tuesday, June 20th to take on the Harrisonburg Turks at 7:00 pm. We can’t wait to see
y’all!

Cannons Vs. Waynesboro Recap By: Lauren Fulton
The Purcellville Cannons hit the road last night and took a trip down to Waynesboro,
Virginia, to take on the Waynesboro Generals at Kate Collins Field. Unfortunately for the
Cannons, they suffered yet another loss in a high scoring 11-9 game. Although they
didn’t win this game, the Cannon’s offense improved immensely from the games prior
to this matchup. This was the first time all week the boys were able to score continually
throughout the game, with many players stepping up offensively to help drive the team
toward success. Additionally, the defense played very well, with each newcomer and
seasoned Cannons veteran working together simultaneously in an effort to try and
secure a much-needed win. Although the boys experienced a rather rough week both
on the road and at home, tomorrow’s game and next week present a new opportunity
to try and take back what was hindered in this week’s performance. Coach Fuller along
with the rest of the staff is confident in each player’s ability to adapt and overcome
these new challenges, and they welcome the adversity as fuel to their never-ending
passion for baseball.
Our starting pitcher for the evening was Daniel Quintana, (FR; James Madison
University), who pitched for 3.1 innings, giving up 8 hits, 2 walks, and 3 earned runs,
with 4 total scoring during his time on the mound. First out of the bullpen for middle
relief was our “losing” pitcher for the evening, Jacob Smith, (SO; University of Pacific),
who pitched for 1 inning, giving up 2 hits, 4 walks, and 5 earned runs. Shortly following
him was Maximo Villamizar, (SO; St. Thomas University of Miami), who we recently
acquired from the Covington Lumberjacks. This was Villamizar’s first outing with the
Cannons, and he pitched for a total of 1.2 innings, giving up 1 hit, 3 walks, with 2
strikeouts, and 1 run during his outing. Up next was Zach Mizrahi, (SO; Tallahassee
Community College), who threw for a total of 1.2 innings, giving up no hits, with 2
walks, and 4 strikeouts. Our final pitcher for the night was Andrew Washington, (SR;
Georgia Gwinnett College), who closed for 0.1 innings, allowing just 1 hit, with no
walks, and no runs scored.
The Cannons were able to put up a run per hit during tonight’s matchup, which is
something we haven’t seen much of throughout this week’s schedule. The boys scored
9 runs with 9 hits, with many players stepping up during “clutch” situations. Justin
Acal, (SR; University of Pittsburgh), went 2 for 5 on the evening, also drawing 1 walk, to
help advance his team as the leadoff hitter in the lineup. Bear Horowicz, (SO; University
of North Carolina Chapel Hill), also went 2 for 5, also drawing a walk and scoring a
successful RBI to help the Cannon’s offense! Joseph Eichelberger, (JR; Paul D Camp),
went 2 for 2 at the plate, with one triple, and scored 4 of the RBI’s acquired throughout
the night. Eichelberger was put in during the later innings as a pinch hitter and did
exactly what needed to be done in order to benefit his team. Jose Torres, (SR;
University of Louisiana Lafayette), went 1 for 4 in tonight’s game, with 1 double, and 1
walk, giving the rest of the offense a baserunner to work with, more than once
throughout the night. The final offensive player to note is Brady Drawbaugh, (SR; Mt.

St. Mary’s University), who went 1 for 3 on the evening, drawing 2 successful walks,
and scoring 2 RBIs to help his team regain a bit of momentum at the plate.
The defense for the evening played very well, allowing just 1 error for the duration of
the game. Our catcher for the evening was Jose Torres, (SR; University of Louisiana
Lafayette), who after having a day off behind the plate yesterday, played throughout the
entirety of tonight’s game. Playing first base was Bear Horowicz, (University of North
Carolina Chapel Hill), playing second base was Keegan Knuston, (SO; San Jacinto
College North), playing shortstop was Justin Acal, (SR; University of Pittsburgh), and
playing third base was Mikey Brinton, (JR; University of Arkansas Fort Smith). Our
outfield for the evening looked similar to last night’s defense, with Necumba Booker Jr.,
(JR; Montreat College), in left field, Kainen Jorge, (SO; College of Central Florida) in
center field, and Brady Drawbaugh, (SR; Mt. St. Mary’s University) in right field.
The Cannons will remain on the road for tomorrow’s game against the Woodstock
River Bandits, which will wrap up this week’s series of games! We will return back to
Fireman’s Field next Tuesday to take on the Harrisonburg Turks for the first time this
season. As always, we hope to see y’all at 7:00 pm, right in the heart of downtown
Purcellville.

Cannons vs. Winchester Royals Recap By: Lauren Fulton
The Cannons have unfortunately added yet another loss to their now 3 game losing
streak. Baseball is a game of ups and downs, and right now, the players are
experiencing some of the unfortunate lows that come with playing this amazing game.
Tonight’s game against the Winchester Royals didn’t start terribly, with good pitching
and good defense making it hard for the Royals to stay consistently on base. However,
the Cannons offense had a hard time responding to the Royals pitching, which led to
several innings of “3 up, 3 down” situations. The final score on the evening was 11-4,
with the Royals securing the win in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The bullpen once again saw a lot of action tonight, with 7 pitchers entering the game to
help support the Cannons offense. Starting for the Cannons on the mound tonight was
Mo Rodriguez, (JR; Rice University), who pitched for 3 innings, allowing just 3 hits, no
walks, and no runs scored. First out of the bullpen for the evening was newcomer Noah
Ingle, (JR; North Greenville University), who unfortunately suffered the “loss” for the
evening. He pitched for 2.1 innings, giving up 3 hits, with 1 walk, and 4 earned runs,
giving the Royals a decent lead during the middle of the game. Will “Poopy” Ricketts,
came into the game for 0.1 innings, and gave up 2 hits, 1 walk, and 3 earned runs. Up
next out of the bullpen was Zach Mizrahi, (JR; Tallahassee Community College), who
pitched for 1.1 innings, giving up 5 hits, and 2 runs. Isaac Kopalchick, (SO; Elgin
Community College), came in for 1 inning, and allowed one hit, no walks, and no runs
scored. The next pitcher was Gabe Moorer, (JR; East Georgia College), who threw for
0.2 innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, and 2 runs with 2 strikeouts. The last pitcher for
the evening was Austin Eppley, (SO; College of Central Florida), who appeared for 0.1
innings, giving up no hits, no runs, and no walks.
The defense for the night had a mix of both newcomers and familiar faces on the field,
with each player contributing at some point throughout the game. Catching for the
Cannons tonight was Jose Torres, (SR; University of Louisiana Lafayette), playing first
base was Bear Horowicz, (SO; University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), playing second
base was Keegan Knuston, (SO; San Jacinto College North), playing shortstop was
Justin Acal, (SR; University of Pittsburgh), and finishing off the infield was Mikey
Brinton, (JR; University of Arkansas Fort Smith). Starting in the outfield for tonight was
Chayce Bryant, (SR; Southeastern University), in left field, playing centerfield was
Kainen Jorge, (SO; College of Central Florida), and finishing off the defense in right field
was Brady Drawbaugh, (SR; Mt. St. Mary’s University). The boys only allowed 1 run on
the evening, which proves the athleticism and grittiness of the Cannons defense.
The offense for the evening wasn’t typically what the Cannons are used to, seeing as
how only 4 runs were scored. However, even though we didn’t win the game, there
were still a few noteworthy moments at the plate from a few hardworking players.
Mikey Brinton went 2 for 4 on the night, giving the rest of the offense some
baserunners to work with for the evening. Justin Acal and Kaiden Jorge both got 1 hit

on the evening, both of which were doubles that helped score a couple of RBI’s on the
evening. All in all, the Cannons offense is making contact at the plate, they are just
currently struggling with stringing quality hits along in order to manufacture timely runs.
As soon as they are able to pull themselves out of their mini “hitting slump”, I have no
doubt they will be back to playing true and quality Cannonball.
The Cannons return back to Fireman’s Field tomorrow night at 7:00 pm to take on the
Strasburg Express for the second time this season. We hope to see y’all there, and we
are thankful for your continued support this season. We truly do enjoy seeing y’all in
the stands and engaging with you and your kids throughout the evening.

Cannons vs. Front Royal Cardinals Recap By: Lauren Fulton
The Cannons hit the road to Front Royal, Virginia, to take on the Cardinals for the
second time this season. The last time the players faced the Cardinals, we walked
away with a 13-4 win, but unfortunately for this game, the Cannons suffered a 7-1 loss.
This is the first time this season that the Cannons have lost back-to-back games, but
the good news is, there is always another opportunity to come back and break the
losing streak.
Our starting pitcher for the evening was Maguire Ayers, (SR; Purdue University Fort
Wayne), who pitched for 5.2 innings, giving up 9 hits, with just 1 walk, and allowing just
1 run to score. He was by far the best pitcher of the evening, keeping his ERA at a solid
2.19. First in relief for the Cannons tonight was Will Ricketts, (JR; Frostburg State
University), who pitched for 0.1 innings and walked 1 batter. Up next out of the bullpen
was our “losing” pitcher of the evening, Isaac Kopalchick, (SO; Elgin Community
College), who gave up 1 hit, and 3 walks, allowing 3 runs to score during his time on
the mound. Following him out of the bullpen was Jabbari Smith, (JR; Undecided), who
gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, and 3 runs, giving the Cardinals offense an even further
advantage. Our last pitcher for the evening was Zach Mizrahi, (JR; Tallahassee
Community College), who came in for the last inning of the game. He gave up no hits,
no walks, and walked away with 2 strikeouts, to help close the game for the Cannons
defense.
Offensively, the Cannons had just a few hits on the evening. Justin Acal, (SR; University
of Pittsburgh), went 2 for 3, with a double and a single, to help produce a baserunner
for the rest of the Cannons’ offense. Bear Horowicz, (SO; University of North Carolina
Chapel Hill), also had a good night at the plate going 1 for 4 with his third home run on
the season, gaining yet another RBI on the season. Kainen Jorge, (SO; College of
Central Florida), and Brady Drawbaugh, (SR; undecided), both got the job done coming
off the bench, and delivered in pinch-hitting situations. Both guys went 1 for 1 at the
plate, doing exactly what each “reserve” player is supposed to do in that situation.
Jose Torres, (SR; University of Louisiana Lafayette), had another great night at the plate
going 2 for 4 on the evening, keeping his batting average at .364.
The Cannons defense only had one error on the evening, which showcased the
incredible talent of each of the players. Catching for the Cannons was Jose Torres,
playing first base was Bear Horowicz, playing second base was Justin Acal, playing
shortstop was Caleb Stewart, (JR; Georgia State University), and finishing off the infield
was Keegan Knuston, (SO; San Jacinto College North). Playing left field for the night
Chase Bryant, (SR; Southeastern University), playing centerfield was Mikey Brinton,
(JR; University of Arkansas Fort Smith), and in right field was Joseph Eichelberger, (JR;
Paul D Camp).

The Cannons return back to Fireman’s Field tomorrow night to play Winchester for the
second time this season at 7:00 pm! One of the best things about being a part of the
Cannons program is the incredible environment that you, the fans, create for each of
these guys. It truly is something special that not every program gets to experience, so
we really do appreciate y’alls continued support. So grab your kids, aunts, uncles,
sisters, girlfriends, boyfriends, or whomever you please, and come down to Fireman’s
field to support your Purcellville Cannons!

Cannons vs. New Market Recap By: Lauren Fulton
Tonight, the Cannons suffered their first run-rule loss of the season. The final score of
tonight’s game against the New Market Rebels was 15-4, lasting just 7 innings.
Although it wasn’t the best outing for the Purcellville Cannons, the boys are confident
that they will adapt to their new circumstances, and push forward towards a better
result for their game tomorrow against the Front Royal Cardinals.
The starting pitcher for tonight’s game was Keegan Zinn, (FR; undecided), who pitched
2 innings, giving up 1 hit and 2 runs. The losing pitcher for tonight’s game was Jacob
Smith, (SO; University of Pacific), who was on the mound for 1.2 innings, giving up 5
hits and 7 runs. Next out of the bullpen was Alberto McCarthy, (SR; Erskine College),
who pitched 0.1 innings, and walked 3 people, allowing 3 runs to score. Our next
pitcher for the evening was Gabe Moorer. (JR; East Georgia College), who pitched for
1.2 innings, giving up 2 hits, and allowing 2 runs to score. Our final pitcher for the
evening was none other than Mikey Brinton, (JR; University of Arkansas Fort Smith),
who came in for final relief for 0.1 innings, giving up no hits and allowing no runs to
score. Needless to say, it wasn’t the best night for the Cannons pitching staff, however,
tomorrow presents a new opportunity to improve from the day prior. The coaches are
confident in their players ability to overcome their own personal challenges, in an effort
to help lead their team to success.
The Cannons defense looked a bit different tonight, as we celebrated a few newcomers
to the team! Catching for the Cannons tonight was newcomer Dylan King, (SO;
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), playing first base was Bear Horowicz, (SO;
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), playing second base was Keegan Knuston,
(SO; San Jacinto College North), playing short stop was Justin Acal, (SR; University of
Pittsburgh), and finishing off the infield was Austin Eppley, (College of Central Florida).
Starting in the outfield tonight was Necumba Booker Jr., (JR; Montreat College),
playing centerfield was Kainen Jorge, (SO; College of Central Florida), and playing right
field was Chayce Bryant, (SR; Southeastern University). The defense made 3 errors on
the evening and saw many substitutions throughout the night. It’s no secret that
playing with new people in new positions takes a period of adjustment for every new
player, but the boys are confident in their ability to recover quickly from their mistakes.
There wasn’t much to note offensively for the evening, however, the Cannons were able
to string together a few hits. Ryne Guida once again had a good night at the plate
going 2 for 4, with 2 RBIs and a double! Kainen Jorge went 1 for 4 at the plate and
scored 1 RBI, allowing the Cannons offense to keep the momentum going for a period
of time. Otherwise, there wasn’t much else to note for the evening.
Unfortunately, not every game can be perfect – “off” days are going to happen
regardless of how good each player is. However, the good news is, they won’t last

forever. They are meant to reveal to everyone exactly what adjustments need to be
made to reach the next level of individual and team success.
The Cannons return to Fireman’s Field this Thursday at 7:00 pm to take on the
Winchester Royals. We hope to see y’all there!
