Cannons vs. Charlottesville TomSox By: Lauren Fulton
Tonight the Purcellville Cannons hit the road all the way to Charlottesville to take on the
TomSox at CHO Airport Field right in the heart of town. This was the furthest the
Cannons have had to travel all season, and they made sure to make the game worth
the long drive. The Cannons walked away securing the 8-2 win over the TomSox,
showcasing our top-tier bullpen, and exceptional offense.
The starting pitcher for the night was Daniel Quintana, (SO; James Madison University),
who pitched a successful 4 innings, allowing just 2 runs for his time on the mound.
First in relief for the night was Jacob Smith, (SO; University of the Pacific), who pitched
a total of 3 innings, allowing no runs to score, perfectly securing the “win” for the
evening. Finishing off the game was Jaxson Dalena, (SO; Shippensburg University),
who closed out the last 2 innings, also allowing no runs to score. Needless to say, it
was a great night for the Cannons bullpen!
The defense for tonight’s game against the TomSox was designed for success! Behind
the plate for the Cannons tonight was Brennan Hudson, (SO; Georgia State University),
who executed his job perfectly for each of the pitchers. Playing first base for the
Cannons tonight was MJ Rodriguez, (SO; Texas A&M Kingsville), playing second base
was Keegan Knuston, (SO; San Jacinto College North), playing shortstop was Caleb
Stewart, (JR; Georgia State University), and playing third was Aiden McDonald, (FR;
James Madison University). The outfield for the Cannons began with Chayce Bryant,
(SR; Southeastern University) in left field, playing center field was Mikey Brinton, (JR;
University of Arkansas Fort Smith), and lastly in right field Joseph Eichelberger, (JR;
Paul D Camp).
The offense for the night worked together up and down the lineup in an effort to score
a good amount of runs throughout the entirety of the game. Each hitter made their
adjustments from the game prior and was able to deliver when their time came. The
offensive player of the night was none other than Chayce Bryant, (SR; Southeastern
University), who went 2 for 4 and scored 2 crucial RBIs to help the Cannons cushion
their lead throughout the game. Dan Swirsky, (SO; Oklahoma State University), also
had a great night at the plate going 2 for 2, and allowing other players to do their job
while he was on base. Ryne Guida, (SR; Florida International University), once again
went 2 for 5 on the night, with his batting average remaining at a solid .536. Each
player did their job at the plate, with runs scored almost every inning. Hitting is all
about making timely adjustments, especially when playing almost every single day of
the week. Taking a look at last night’s offense compared to tonight’s, each player did
exactly what they needed to do in order to walk away with a high-scoring win!
The Cannons will be back tomorrow evening at Fireman’s Field to take on the
Covington Lumberjacks at 7:00 pm! It’s going to be a warm night folks, so come
celebrate this wonderful summer night with your Purcellville Cannons!
