Purcellville Canons

Cannons Revenge Early Season Loss to Rebels, Win 11-1

Cannons vs. New Market Rebels Recap

By: Lauren Fulton

Tonight, the Cannons traded, “an eye for an eye”, with the New Market Rebels, as the
boys efficiently defeated them at Rebel’s stadium in just 8 innings, with an 11-1 win. As
you may recall earlier this season, the Rebels run-ruled the Cannons 15-4 at Fireman’s
field, but as I’ve mentioned before, the Cannons don’t go down without a fight.

Tonight’s game was filled with numerous “big time” performances from players up and
down the lineup – we saw pitchers come in to pinch hit, and boys capitalizing on errors
made by the opposing defense. Sometimes, it just takes a couple of rained-out games
to get back “into the swing” of things!

Our starting pitcher for the evening was Chayce Bryant, (SR; Southeastern University),
who pitched for 2 complete innings, allowing just 1 hit, and 2 walks during his time on
the mound. First in relief for the night was the “winning” pitcher, Austin King, (SO; San
Jacinto College North), who was there for 3 innings, allowing 4 hits, no walks, and 1
earned run, all while gaining 3 strikeouts to help the Cannons defense. Up next out of
the bullpen was Daniel Quintana, (FR; James Madison University), who threw for 2
innings, giving up no hits, no walks, and no runs. Our final pitcher for the evening was
Gabe Moorer, (JR; East Georgia College), who pitched for the final inning of the evening
and allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, and no runs to keep the Cannons at the 10-run advantage
and walk away winning with a run-rule final.

The offense for the evening was nothing short of dominant. Players up and down the
lineup came up big in moments that mattered and efficiently worked together to secure
the win over the Rebels. Some players to note from tonight’s performance include
Ryne Guida, (SR; Florida International University), Brendan Roney, (JR; Florida
International University), and Tristan McAlister, (SR; Mt. St. Mary’s University), who all
demonstrated discipline at the plate. Guida went 3 for 3 on the evening, keeping his
batting average at a league leading .442 halfway through the season! Roney went 5 for 5 on base                                                                       tonight recording 3 hits and 3 RBIs, while also drawing 2 walks! McAlister went 2 for 4
at the plate recording 3 RBIs and drawing a walk to help the rest of the offense!
There were also 4 doubles recorded on the evening by Austin Eppley, (SO; College of
Central Florida), Bear Horowicz, (SO; University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), Tristan
McAlister, and Chayce Bryant. Other players to note offensively include those who also
recorded RBIs during tonights game: Justin Acal, (SR; University of Pittsburgh), Austin
Eppley, Chayce Bryant, and Jaxson Dalena.

The defense for the evening was impeccable, with no errors recorded during the entire
game! Catching for the Cannons was returning Cannon, Brendan Roney, who just
celebrated his first game of the 2023 season with the Cannons. He also earned “big
dog” honors, due to his performance both at the plate and behind the plate during
tonight’s game! Playing first base was Ryne Guida, playing second base was Justin
Acal, playing shortstop was Tristan McAlister, and finishing off the infield was Keegan
Knuston at third base. Our outfielders for the evening were Joseph Eichelberger in left                                                                                            field, Brady Drawbaugh, (SR; Mt. St. Mary’s University), in center field, and Bear
Horowicz in right field.

The Cannons will begin their All-Star break tomorrow and will return back to playing on
Wednesday, June 28th, to take on the Front Royal Carnivals at Bing Crosby Stadium at
7:00 pm. The boys will return back to Fireman’s Field in the heart of Purcellville on June
30th to take on the Covington Lumberjacks! After being away for so long, we hope to
see y’all there!

Tentatively, Friday night's Cannons/Rebels game will be made up on 6/9.
