Cannons Travel to Covington Taking First Win of Season

The Purcellville Cannons (0-1) took the most extended road trip by distance possible in the Valley to take on the Covington Lumberjacks (0-1) at Casey Field on Sunday night. The Cannons bats went silent early, but in the third inning, Purcellville scored six runs. Covingtons Starting Pitcher Avery Heiple (Potomac State College) struggled to throw strikes in the third. Lumberjack's Manager Logan Williamson took out Heiple and brought in Cole Fryman (Samford U). Fryman settled things down the rest of Game 1, only allowing one run through 4.2 innings pitched. Cannon's starting pitcher, Joe Vagatsky, pitched phenomenally. He pitched six strong innings striking out six. Joe did allow two runs to score in the 6th. Coming in the 7th, Nick Palumbo (Pace University) shut things down to give the Cannons their first win of the 2021 season. Right Fielder Houston King (Kentucky) had two hits during Game 1. Brady Drawbaugh (Mount Saint Mary University) drove in two RBI's.

Game 2 of the Doubleheader was in a rain delay shortly after the game began. Soon after the rain delay, projections had the rain not stopping for at least an hour. After the umpires found out about this,  they called the game.  The makeup date for this 2nd game of the Doubleheader is currently TBA

The Purcellville Cannons return to action after a day off on Tuesday to the Winchester Royals home ballpark (Bridgeforth Field) for a 7:00 PM start.
