2021 Season Preview #JUCOPRODUCT

Luke Pectol -- San Jacinto College -- 1B/DH 6'4" 215lbs

Luke joins the Cannons from JUCO powerhouse San Jacinto in Texas. Luke was named as one of the top incoming freshman for Junior Colleges by Perfect Game at #21. He possesses a rare combo of speed and power at the 1B position, he runs a 6.50 sixty yd dash and was tremendous pullside power. Coach Kory Koehler of San Jac says of Pectol, "Extremely Athletic 1B who hits from Left Side. Tremendous barrel awareness and control throughout the zone. Extremely good runner for his size and can take the extra base when able. Large power to the pull side but will use the whole field. Athlete!"

Ben Steward -- Wallace-Dothan Community College -- LHP 6'3" 175lbs

Hailing from Griffin, Georgia and Spalding Highschool; Ben Steward is a strike throwing LHP that works in the upper 80s. Coach Nick Buentello says of Ben, "Ben is a strike 6’3” strike thrower from the state of Georgia. Highly touted out of high school. Expected to be a big piece of the pitching staff for the Govs this season." 

Cole English -- Wallace-Dothan Community College -- RHP 6'4" 215lbs

Cole, also a native of Georgia is also ranked as a Top Incoming JUCO Freshman by Perfect game--coming in at #91. He is a 6'4" RHP that routinely works in the low 90s with his fastball. Cole is from Locust Grove, GA and played his highschool ball at Locust Grove High School. Coach Buentello on Cole, "Cole English is a 6'4" physical arm out of the state of GA. Explosive fastball. Comitted to East Tennessee State University. In Line to be the closer for the Govs this season."

Jose Aquino -- Cisco College -- Right Field 6'3" 200lbs

Returning to the Cannons for 2021 is Jose Aquino 6'3" 200lb Right Fielder from Cisco College by way of Methuen, MA. Jose led the Cannons is pretty must every offensive category in 2019. Aquino hit .348 with 8 Homeruns and 19 Runs Batted In. Jose has a tremendous arm from the OF and has the athletic ability to play all around the field. Jose was a catalyst for the Cannons offense and we look forward to him bringing the same production in 2021. 

Max Crabbe -- Alvin Community College -- 1B/OF 6'2" 215lbs

Another returning Cannons from the 2019 squad is INF/OF Max Crabbe. During the 2019 campaign, Crabbe hit .310 over 24 games with 2 Homeruns and 22 RBI. Crabbe a D1 bounce back from the University of Hawaii and Long Beach State University is a complete hitter. Max has the ability to hit for average as well as power. He has a good eye at the plate as exhibited by having more walks than Ks during the 2019 season. Crabbe handles velocity very well and uses the whole field. He understands hitting at a level that is uncommon for his age.

Damon Fernandez --Alvin Community College -- RHP 6'2" 190lbs

Damon Fernandez is a solid RHP that works between 90-94 with his fastball. He has pro quality in his ability to spin the breaking ball. He also possesses a three pitch mix and should contend for a rotation spot for the Cannons this summer. Damon is a D1 bounceback from Texas State. Damon is a graduate of Manvel High School an threw 2 No-Hitters in his prep career. 

Jake Arthur -- Alvin Community College -- RHP 6'3 195lbs


Jake is described as a strong RHP with wirey frame who possesses a quick arm action. He has been clocked with a pulldown of 102mph and routinely working off the mound in the 89-93mph range. One aspect that really stands out in Jake's pitches is his speed differential in his fastball to curveball. Also has a plus changeup to complement the fastball and breakingball. 

Jhonny Felix -- Western Oklahoma State College -- Shortstop / RHP 5'10" 185lbs

A switch-hitting Shortstop with solid power and elite defense, Jhonny Felix has the tools that professional teams covet. Jhonny was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 21st Round of the MLB Draft in 2019. After deciding to remain in college for another season. Jhonny joined the Cannons late in the 2019 season. Appearing in the final 6 games of the 2019, Felix hit .391 over 23 ABs for the Cannons. He even jumped on the mound and worked his fastball in the low to mid-90s. 

Gavin White -- Ranger Community College -- Shortstop 6'3" 215lbs 

Gavin is the epitome of what it means to be a juco bandit. Coming out of High School, Gavin had few offers to play collegiate ball. When faced with the prospect that baseball may be coming to an end, he became an absolute animal in the weight room and went from 160lbs to 215lbs. With that added strenght, Gavin has been able to move more efficiently which has resulted in huge gains on the ball diamond. With the added speed and strenght, Gavin has become a pro prospect at the premier position of SS. Standing now at a powerful 6'3" 215lbs, White is able to drive the ball out of the park to all fields on a consistent basis and run a sixty in 6.77 seconds. Gavin has been clocked at 92mph accross the diamond from short and in the weight room has put up large numbers on the bench (405lbs), Squat (475lbs), and dead lift (520lbs). 

Jake Cothran -- Florence Darlington Tech -- LHP 6'0" 170lbs

Coming to the Cannons by way of Inman, SC is LHP Jake Cothan. Jake is a lean lefty that works his fastball in the 90-92mph range with sharp 2-seam movement. Jake pairs the fastball with a plus tight breakingball that keeps hitters off balance. Cothran is a interesting arm for the Cannons as he has the ability to start but has electric stuff out of the pen. 

Jakob Mattos -- State College of Flordia -- RHP 5'10" 185lbs

The final returning #JUCOPRODUCT from the 2019 Cannons is RHP Jakob Mattos. Mattos worked out of the pen and served as the teams relief ace in 2019. Mattos has the ability to start as well as close in the Valley League. Jakob features an ever improving fastball in the 91-94mph range. Mattos is a D1 bounce back from Coastal Carolina University. We expect Mattos to continue his dominace from the shortened 2020 spring season where he threw 8 innings over 5 appearences striking out 10 and giving up ZERO runs. 

Connor Olson --Wabash Valley College -- OF / INF 6'0" 

Olson is a coaches dream for a long season. Connor has the ability to play all the infield and outfield positions whiling maintainig a productive force in the line-up. In two abbreviated collegiate seasons, containing summer collegiate seasons as well, Olson has never hit below a .360 average. Connor is comitted to the Illinois State University Redbirds following his spring as a Bash boy and summer as a Cannon. Olson is in the mold of a Ben Zobrist type of player, and that versitality is something that provides tremendous value to the Cannons.

Nick Wimmers -- Eastern Oklahoma State College 

Nick comes extremely touted for his defensive ability and leadership in handling an extermely talanted staff at Eastern OK State College. Having some of the best JUCO arms in the nation, EOSC runs Wimmers behind the plate regularly and expects him to lead the staff. Wimmers in no slouch at the dish, as a switch-hitting catcher that gets on base and has the ability to drive the ball for an extra base hit Nick provides tremendous value to a club on both sides of the ball. Nick's cousin Alex Wimmers played for the Cannons franchise back in 2008 when the team was located in Luray, VA. Alex went on to play in the MLB for the Minnesota Twins. 

Jacob Savage -- Eastern Oklahoma State College -- RHP 6'1" 200lbs

Jacob Savage joins the Cannons along with EOSC teamate Nick Wimmers. Savage works his fastball in the upper-80s to low-90s with a very good feel for his offspeed. In the one outing Cannons staff was able to see during the fall, Jacob pitched 2 innings with 2Ks  while allowing ZERO runs on one hit.
