Cannon's Outfielder Avery Tuck looks to future in Professional Baseball

It could be a bitter sweet summer for a Cannon. Avery Tuck, an outfielder for the Thunderbirds of New Mexico Junior College, is set to play for the Cannons this season. Although he is listed on the roster, he hopes that he doesn’t make it to Purcellville.

Yes, you read that last sentence right. Tuck is a player who has a great outlook into the future and has a high possibility of being drafted. A highly touted player out of high school, Tuck decided to spend a year at junior college; something a lot of players who are ready to get drafted do to show maturity and help their draft stock. He has taken advantage of the opportunity.

Tuck has racked up a .397 batting average and is getting on base at a 50% clip. This is just a small sample size, as he is a freshman for the Thunderbirds this season. When asked what is in store for his future, Tuck said, “I am hoping to go into the draft and someday achieve my dream of playing professional baseball.” You hear this same quote from so many kids around the world, but it is different to hear it from someone who is very close to making it a reality.

“I’ve worked on the mental part of my game,” Tuck said when asked about adjustments he made coming into college. “I make sure that I go out there having fun and stay relaxed.” This is something that he has done an exceptional job of. This new outlook on the mental part of his game has been helped by team chemistry. Trust and fun are 2 things that New Mexico Junior College values. “I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I trust my teammates to pick me if I can’t get the job done,” Tuck says.

Wherever Tuck ends up, we wish him the best of luck, from top to bottom of the Purcellville Cannon’s organization. You can follow along with his career in his next game against El Paso Community College this Friday, the 23rd.
